Mine sometimes does that when ive cleaned it,it has got liquid down the switch,on mine I can get the switch off and dry down there with a hair dryer.

sounds like the ignition switch is stuck. Either that or the lighter mechanism is knackered and will need replacing. Which probably means you'll have to replace the hob. Try looking in yellow pages etc, for someone who does cooker repairs. It may be possible to fix / replace, you never know

Push the button side ways it sounds as if the button is stuck in. If you can pull the button out give it a clean push a Q tip in that should do the trick.

This happend to me its to do with flued cleaning etc
Try to dry it out if it continues for more than 24 hr get some one in.

I had same problem with mine. Ignition switch was worn out. I just disconnected electrics and now light with matches.

If its the ignition button, try twisting it, sometimes with mine it comes loose causing it to short
