Hi
im presently reading 'one child' by Torey Hayden.

She used to be a special needs teacher and writes about some of the children she has had in her classroom.

She has written a number of books and once you start you cant put them down.

I love the fact that when you pick up a good book you can forget all your troubles and lose yourself in it.

I've just finished Atonement by Ian McEwan. I've never read any of his books before - actually I don't know much about him but I have seen the film version of Enduring Love with Daniel Craig, Samantha Morton and Rhys Ifans - which I quite liked.

So I didn't have very high expectations of the book to be honest, but once I started reading I was hooked. I really liked part one, the beginning, not so much part 2 because it's quite brutal as it's during wartime.

It's an interest read, quite sad really.

And now I'm just about to start The Island by Victoria Hislop.

I'm reading book five of the Harry Potter series. So far, it's turning out to be the best. Harry is finally questioning the way he's been treated in the world of magic. The first two books were essentially the same story, the third added new elements to Harry's past, and the fourth was almost impossible to finish due to poor writing. But I am enjoying the more mature craft of this fifth book.

Currently reading Katherine Kerr "Time of War" (generally fabulous fantasy) Can recommend all her books if you like fantasy! If not then I recommend, "Pillars of the earth" by Ken Follett- Totally unputdownable and "We need to talk about Kevin" by Lionel Shriver very disturbing but great! Happy reading!

I'm reading Anne Perry's
Dark Assasin.

I love Anne Perry mysteries. She has the Monk series and the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series which are both excellent and are very historically acurate concerning the Victorian era in England.

I've finally got around to reading Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks. I'm enjoying it, but it's quite a bit different to what I thought it would be.

Best book I've read in recent times is The Kite Runner - very moving.

I'm reading Price of Honour by Jan Goodwin. Jan is an American journalist who travlled through the Middle East talking to women from all walks of life who live in Muslim countries. It covers rebellious Princesses. The Businesswoman who runs her own thriving construction company and yet is not allowed to attend business meetings or hire women. To the grandmother who was beaten and raped by police because she was going to rent a room out to two young ladies and the young girls who wanted to study in America but couldn't go without a male relative to take responsibility for them. Dad couldn't go so they had to take their 11 year old brother who had learning difficulties and a mental age of two, so their mother also had to go along to look after their chaperone. I've been through Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, I'm up to Iraq.
