My periods have been really irregular(started 11 months ago), I'm 16. I got my period for the 1st time in over 2 months today! This is really bad because I am in a country town at the moment with my Dad and in 2 days we are travelling to a city to meet my Mum and other siblings. The problem is, my Mum pretty much expected me to wear tampons almost immediately and because of TSS (I already worry unnessesarily about small everyday things as it is) I haven't been inclined to try them yet. My problem is that my Mum bought be ultra thin pads but must not have read the back which said what type of flow they were designed for. I got for a heavy flow (ultra thin supa pads!). They are too long! I also got overnight pads with tampons when I first started. I only have 2 of the pads left and like 6 overnight pads! I have a light to medium flow. I will be wearing denim jeans. Will you be able to see the pad? Also, my parents promised they'd take me shopping for winter clothes.

I don't want to shop wearing a large pad when I have my period! I am worried you will be able to see the pad in my medium dark coloured jeans which are snug fitting but stretchy. I don't want to go shopping now! I need trackpants etc though. I doubt my parents will buy them unless I try them on. Also, I have a limited number of pads now (my Mum told me to ask her for some more ones when I needed them, I'm not really close with my Mum so of course I haven't asked her). What do I do?

Is it bad to wear a supa pad for too long (considering I have very few pads now and I have used up all of the panti-liners)?

Can you get TSS from them if you wear them too long? I will be at home by myself (and my Dad) for the next two days. What to do?

There is no drug store in this small country town! I try not to leave the house in this town because I can't stand seeing the most annoying people I know from ages ago. I can't tell my Dad, it's too embarrasing.

i used to wonder the same thing. no matter what size it is, u cant see them through ur clothes! and as for the tampons, should wait til ur sexually active. eventhough its perfectly safe, most women find the idea and the tampon more comfortable when u're active.

Its normal that your period is still not regular yet, it takes time. Its alright to use tampons, just make sure to change them 4-8 hours into using them. The TSS is only IF you wear it too long. I wear pads with jeans all the time, depends on the jeans and how tight they are. If they have pockets and or not too thin or tight then it should be fine. Going shopping when having your period calls for using tampons if you will be buying pants but winter clothes is mostly tops so dont worry too much, plus no one else has to see you in the dressing room. Go to the store and buy more appropriate pads/tampons now that you know the general flow of your period. Hope this helped..

Dark denim is good, you need to see a doctor about the irregularity of your peroids.
I had a simular problem I was told to drink at least 4-5 glasses of water a day (you should also)you need panty liners on the light days if you are worried about who will see your personal business.Tampons are good but at night when you go to bed you should wear pads to keep your flow from lasting longer and like most of the newer pads you can't really see them through your clothes just try to eat healthier please plenty WATER and see a doctor and also take a laxative every 4-5 mos.these things might help.......Just thank god you aren't from the older days when they had to wear a pad the size of a mattress and had the look of diaper booty!!hahahaha! have a good trip!
Wear some shades and a hat wait till everyone leaves the store or theres an old person in there go to the counter and in your deepest voice say Vheeree hare zhour pads! it's part of life soon you'll be driving are you embaressed of that NO why everyone does some day!
TSS to aviod like I said pads at night and tampons when your dressed with a pantyliner change every 2-3 hours or everytime you tinkle use them on the heavy days and pads when you are on the last to next day then panty liners! enjoy your trip!!

you are going to have to get over the embarrassment of asking for what you want.. I know at your age, its not something you want to do.. go up to Mom or Dad and say "erm! excuse me, I need some more pads now"... but its a fact of life and like buying kleenex.. you just need to experiment with different brands.. You'll soon find one or maybe a combo of a couple to use during that time.. I myself.. use 3.. the first 2 days are extremely light.. I can wear a tampon or an ultra thin, the 3rd, 4th 5th days its like niagra falls and no tampon holds back the rage.. I need super duper army ration pads.. (lol), then by the 6th or 7th day, it gets slower and a normal maxi (I like thin at this point) will do.. .. so I just keep a few different ranges of tampons and pads in my bathroom cupboard.. .. Dont feel embarrassed about trying on clothing at this time.. Just imagine all the billions of ladies in the world.. at some point during the month (even top fashion models) they are on their periods.. We all deal with it.. You will too.. goodluck!..

I'd just wear the super thin pads that are too long rather than an overnight pad which would be like a diaper.

I personally use tampons and have for YEARS and have never had TSS. The risk of it is very small and it is unlikely you will get it.

I keep a wide range of pads for my flow when I have my periods.

The pad will not show thru the jeans. I used to worry about that as well as a teen only to discover that it didn't show thru the pants.

I used to wear tampons for a time starting after 18 but then had to stop a while ago due to medical issues unrelated to the tampon itself.

As for your mom wanting you to wear tampons just let her know that you would prefer to stay with pads as they are more comfortable for you. I prefer pads now.

I love the Always brand the best.

To find out more about their different product lines check out: http://www.always.com

Then put in your country name: the U.S. if you are in the U.S. and it will take you to the page where you can find info about the different products they have.

The Always Maxi pads may be just right for your amount of flow.

Pls feel free to IM or e-mail me privately any time if you would like to talk about this some more.

I am with you. I hate tampons because I have a heavier flow. You cant see the pad through jeans but be careful for leaks. You need to talk to one of your parents about buying you pads. You shouldnt be worried about it like this. If your mom wont let you wear them than ask your dad. He knows all about this stuff so dont be embarrased.

I was wearing one of those huge overnight pads and none of my family members noticed it! Do't worry... which ever pad feals more comfertibal! No one is looking... don't worry.. And don't forget to ask to go to the store and get those girly things!

Ask a parent (either one) to take you to the store so you can buy whatever kind of pad, tampon, etc you need.

If you can see the pad through your jeans (very unlikely), cut the ends off the pad and make it smaller.

Good luck.

whenever you wear jeans you CAN'T see the pad ii know it always feels like ya' can but no worries you cant.
I think you should go tell your dad to take you to a drug store for some "necessary womanly items" before you go away.
Also as long as you change the tampon eveery 3 or 4 hours or less dont worry about TSS.
