And will most likely give you a hard time getting a job after graduating from it? The school I currently attend is a 4th tier university in the middle of a very bad neighborhood and is considered one of the worst schools in chicago, but would it be bad to transfer from it?

Not at all. If you can get in somewhere better, do so so that you can graduate from a better place.

If you believe this about your college, and want to transfer, I strongly encourage you to do so. But if you're doing well there, and feel that you are being prepared for whatever industry your major is geared toward, and you're happy there, then there is no reason to transfer.

It's never bad to transfer from one college to another, unless you will lose credits or be unable to meet your goals at the new school.

In the meantime, start asking questions on your campus to find out why your school is ranked so low. Maybe it has nothing to do with your major, or your ability to get a job after graduation. Find out what the admit rate is for students from your campus to get into grad school. And if you don't like what you find out, make an appointment with the president of your college and start asking him why things are like that, and what he's doing to fix it.

Good luck!

A lot of college students will do their first 3 years at a community college, then transfer to a state school for their senior year to get the "better" degree upon graduation.

If you can transfer to a better school, do it. The school you graduate from has a big effect on your job in the future. Future employers will look at where you graduated from and if you and another candidate are both good for the job, they'll probably go with the other one if they went to a better school.

No, transfer away and like someone else mentioned you could even go to a community college for undergrad studies and transfer your last year to a good college. Good Luck!

transfer, people do it all the time. Just be aware that all your credits may not be accepted, especially if you are comming from a sub par school.
