Seems to me that if you want to conserve gas the answer is to drive less! Buy your groceries once every two weeks instead of daily. Have teenagers cut out their puberty rites of driving up and down the street all night. Carpool to work if possible and so forth. And if you do this the price will go up more because the greedy oil producers want to make more, more, more.

First of all.... This statement is wrong.
"If we all just drove a little slower, just a little bit off the gas, then gas itself would go down in price."
Driving slower wastes more gas. I did a Physics experiment to determine use of gas. Believe it or not, Speed limits are $also set for gas conservation. The best gas conservation is found in the freeway.
Ok onto the rest of the question. I agree with you. Personally I started taking the buss and walking more. My car gathers dust. I'm happy i filled my tank at $2.30 now the price here is 2.80
"Leave the house 10 minutes early so you don't have to drive fast. Keep it under 65. If we all did this, things would be a lot better. Then we can work on others. Remember, this will also make it cheaper to drive."
Wrong again. The test we did said 70 was the best optimized speed to conserve gas.

I understand what you are saying but the gas wars are a game the companies
play. I don't know about the States, but it has been going on forever here in
Canada. It's a game. Some stations had to close down because there was a
fire at one of the refineries. They raised the price of gas through the roof. I also
agree that people speed and that high end off road vehicles and SUVs are gas
guzzlers. It's a no win situation, no matter how you look at it.

Remember, half of the people on the road are,by definition, below average. Most people know little or nothing about physics, inertia or combustion engines. The reason that higher speeds are more efficient is that when one is on the interstate inertia is constant and there is little need for the energy needed to propel a one ton or more object. In the 1970's,there vas a serious energy crisis. Our government was nearly laughed out of office when Jimmy Carter appeared on T.V. wearing a sweater, telling the people to turn down the heat and drive more slowly. At that time,we were infomed how to drive more conservatively so as to save energy. There are now many more reasons not to inform younger drivers how to drive more efficiently. All of those reasons can be found in the financial reports of the major oil comanies. All of those reasons are dollars!

I'm trying to figure out why no one is complaining about the price of bottled water and milk which is FAR more expensive than gas. Hello! 1.50 for a liter of water? That's about $6 a gallon. Milk's around $3.25 around here. Quit complaining about the gas. Here's an idea, burn your SUV in your house. Save on gasoline and your heating bill.
ctyslikr2003 - thanks for that information, I've always wondered which speed was the most efficient on fuel.

I don't complain about gas prices, and I floor it.
People that complain and floor it are just stupid.
I think hippie environmentalists are too paranoid.
The solution isn't conservation or a lack of caring. The solution is proggressive thinking solutions. We aren't in the stone age anymore where we need to burn coal for energy. There's plenty of renewable, environmentally friendly energy solutions out there waiting to be tapped into. We need to do more to tap those possibilities. Sacrifcing lifestyle certainly isn't the solution.

just cuz we drive a little slower, does not mean the gas price will go down, they will just go up to fill the gap in lost money, u have to remember the world goes around money and not to much else. and just cuz we slow down, the damage we all ready caused will not dissaper right away, it will be there for many more years, even if we stop to day, we would have years more of it getting worse before it would start to imporve.

When people speed, they don't think about that. They think about getting somewhere quickly. That's normal!!! Also, I don't think speeding is going to make a big difference in the world. Maybe we should focus on feeding the poor or finding a cure for cancer. Like it or not, we couldn't do anything about the Katrina. That was in act of God.

Everyone is in a big damn hurry all the time and nothing is going to stop them. The same with everyone thinking their stupid cell phone is so all fired important! NO ONE, not even world leaders need to be available at every minute and no one needs to be somewhere so fast they need to drive at ridiculous speeds. Everyone wants to feel important though!

DO MOST OF US EVEN KNOW HOW HIGH THE PRICE IS IN OTHER COUNTRIES ? WE ARE GREEDY AND ALWAYS WANTING. WE SHOULD GROW UP , OPEN OUR EYES AND SEE THE WORLD. WE ARE NOT THE BE ALL AND END ALL. THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN 'AMERICAN IDOL', BASKET BALL AND GAS HUNGRY SUV. ALSO EVERY ONE IN THE FAMILY DOES NOT NEED A CAR. USE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. IF IT'S BAD IN YOUR AREA, USE WHAT YOU HAVE AND THE GOVERNMENT WILL HAVE TO UP GRADE IT.
