Why is the first cut, always the deepest?

If you mean emotional, it is because horrible never-felt-before hormones and feelings flood through your body for the first time and it is hard to handle them since you have never been exposed to these feelings.

On the symbolic side of things. It is the deepest because it is unexpected, and you still can't believe the person could cut (hurt) you that way.
On the Literal side, any cut hurts, but the first time you get one, it's like something you never imagined feeling. Such awful pain. When you get another, it hurts, but you pretty much know the pain, and can better deal with it the second time around.

Because that's the first time you experience it. They say if you get used to the pain, it gets easier, but I think there's no way a person could be numb to it. :(
