i had a window 98 se. "I know, I know it own" I try to update it to window xp pro. in the process of upgrading it, when it try to installing the xp. It read the xp cd, but it give an error message that it can't find couples file in the I386 folder. "It is the kind of file you would find in the system file. if you go to windows > I386> system > catroot it in there". "I went to my newer computer and search for those file that is how i know is in there. but i there are some that i can't find on the new computer and is show in the error messages." Like DAJAVAC.cat, CLASSES.cat, MSJDBC.cat. what i want is to upgrade and transfer some doc from my old os to xp. it is possible at this point?

Copy or move your files to a CD or other storage media and then move them to your new PC. Then reformat your old PC drive and reinstall Win XP. That's it!

yes... under dos if you know dos,,, and if you know the file names you want

you could do a compleat new install of XP pro,, if you know how to do it, the upgrade cd is a con... you have got the full version there.. but should you wish to do that you will lose your files
