just last week. my husband and i went out for a pizza. as we parked the car we saw a 10-12 year old girl sitting on the steps of a closed shop. she was too young to stay there by her self in the middle of the night (it was arounf 9.30) from her look i knew she was homeless....
i didn't want her to stay there all alone by her self. so we decided to order a pizza and and share it with her. when we returned she was there with her mom... so we ended up giving her the pizza.
she smiled. and that was enough to light my day.
poverty is a major issue in sri lanka and to find a solution is not easy as you think.

I gave my neighbor food when her and her kids need food and there was a lot of drama going on in her life.
Donating clothes and food for clothing and food drives.
Giving money to a family for an operation for their son.
and a few others within the past 6 months.
I like doing that, not only do you feel good about it but you helping people, like you said less fortunate. If I was less fortunate I would hope for the same. Treating others as they treat you.

Today. When buying some things at a thrift store saw somethings that would look great on a little girl of a single mum near me, so I brought them along with some things for my own kids. Dropped them off and they were a nice fit and the little girl now has a new outfit. A litle kindness and thought can go a long way.

I'm always doing things for others but I shocked myself the other day by what I did.
Here's what happened.
A few days ago, my daughter had borrowed my truck and coming back, she came up on my neighbor sitting in the road with his truck broken down. She said she just HAD to stop. He told her that he had been sitting there for a long time and she was the only person that had even stopped for him. His truck had quit and he needed a tow home. She told him she was afraid to try pulling him herself because it wasn't her truck she was driving but she would see if she could find someone to come help him. She didn't really expect to find anyone that would help him because he was a very hateful person and no one around here liked him. She certainly didn't expect ME to because of a very nasty and bitter argument he and I had had about 4 years ago and we hadn't spoken since. I really despised that man so I don't know what made me just drive up there, hook to him and pull him home. He couldn't seem to thank me enough. I expected his niceness to last just until I got him home.... But I was wrong. Now when he passes my house, he smiles and waves, often slowing down to yell hello and ask me how I'm doing, etc.. We are talking again and the trouble we had had before has been forgotten.

Last week. I've not been out of the house for 3 days already.
Anyway, on my way to the hospital, I saw an old, blind man who sells packets of tissues, candies and what not. Whenever I pass by that corner, I'd always slip a dollar or two into his hands.

you know, I used to do things all the time and I can honestly say that I do not remember when the last time was. Sad to say all I can remember is letting an elderly woman go in front of me in line at the grocery store. Thank you for this question, it made me realize that I have been spending too much time on "me" and not enough time helping others.

I just donated to Heifer International earlier today. I'm volunteering at an orphanage in Tijuana in a couple of weeks. Then I'm doing a 5k walk for cancer research in May.
