Native Americans got to the American continent on foot.
It happened before the Last Glacial Maximum. (sometime 22,000-25,000 years ago).
The same way native Europeans got to Europe, the same way Asians got to Asia, even native Australians.
There was a time when the continents were connected. Take a look at North America and South America. These two continents might one day break apart due to tectonic plate movements (geology).
the following post script is my theory and I should be credited.

it is also possible they came from Europe via Greenland, during the last Ice Age I believe water became ice which served as a bridge.
Also, the south equatorial current of the Atlantic ocean can carry any floating thing from west coast Africa straight through to America.
Eventually, you get a mix of all races forming what is known today as native American/American Indians.
The word India is often used because a lost sailor wrongly considered America to be India after he supposedly circumnavigated.

The theory is there was a land bridge from Asia to North America; that nobody originated here, and that they all came overland and sort of spread out from there.
But archaeologists have found stone heads of what have to be Negroes and thick-bodied white types in central America, probably Phoenicians; that's why central Africans like Nigerians are much more muscular than some other tribal regions' inhabitants are, also Ugandans.
But the general Asiatic origin of people in the new World appears to be proven by blood groups, etc.

A long long time ago, the ocean levels were lower. They American Indigeous people walked over the land that connected Asia and the Americas, now under water and known as the Bering Strait. Since then, the water has risen and the place they walked over is under water. Thats how the theory goes.

Native American or Indians originally came to North America via the Bering Straits on foot. They've lived here for probably a hundred or so years before thew Europeans invaded.

The currently accepted theory is that they came through the land bridge which was between what is now Alaska and Russia during the ice age.
However, new research suggests it may have been boats.

I saw something on PBS a while back that suggested that at one time there was land where some of the water is now. The idea was that maybe some people came by land from Asia. Long, long time ago.

They migrated when all or most of the continents were still connected (land bridge) or by sea. They most likely migrated from Asia (from Siberian people) around 12,000 years ago and broke off into many different cultures.
