There is 5 women in a race, say A, B, C, D, and E
If a women will win a race, then there are 5 possible ways and any body will win a race, i.e
possible ways are A, B, C, D, and E
n(First) = 5

Now,
For the second position,
as the first place is selected and we will select the second place, so there are only 4 ways and following possibilities are as under

if A got first place than the second place will select from any one of B,C,D, and E

if B got first place than the second place will select from any one of A,C,D, and E

if C got first place than the second place will select from any one of A,B,D, and E..... and so on
n(Second) = 4

For the third position,
as the first and second place is selected and we will select the third place, so there are only 3 ways and following possibilities are as under

if A and B got first and second place than the third place will select from any one of C,D, and E

if B and C got first and second place than the third place will select from any one of A,D, and E ...... and so on
n (Third) = 3

Total number of ways are
= 5 × 4 × 3
= 60 ways

any 5 can have the 1st position
now only 4 are left. any 4 can have the 2nd position
now only 3 are left. any 3 can have the 3rd position
thus
5*4*3=60
It can also be calculated by
