Lysosomes are cell organelles filled with powerful hydrolytic enzymes capable of digesting any organic matter. Its functions are :-
1. Lysosome digests the foreign bodies like bacteria, virus or protozoans entering the cells.
2. It helps in Intracellular and Inter cellular digestion, hence known as DIGESTIVE BAGS.
3. In poorly working cells, the lysosomes burst to digest the entire cell where they are themselves present, hence known as SUICIDAL BAGS.

SPECIAL CASES
4. In the Metamorphosis of Tadpole into a Frog, the lysosomes burst to dissolve the tail of the tadpole.
5. In fertilization the sperms enter the ova when the lysosomes burst and break the cell membrane of the ova.
6. The WBC kill the invading foreign body by bursting the lysosomes in their food vacuoles containing the foreign body.
