The 1993 film Dazed and Confused is a high school story set in 1976. Later in the movie one of the characters explains her 'every other decade theory'. Being a 70's character she says that the 70's sucked and maybe the 80's will be cool. Since the 60's were "awesome" and the 50's were bland, this is her theory.
Do other people see this as being true. Is each decade just a rebellion against the decade before? Are there similarities between the 60's, 80's and 2000's and between the 50's, 70's, and 90's?

I think the 60s are overrated by aging hippies who are nostalgic... the 50s definitely had better music, between rockabilly, r n b, doo wop and rock n roll, whereas in the early 60s things started to lilt until the beatles came and brought some life, then went the way of the druggies. The 80s were a good reaction the listless 70s, but the 90s were probably better (at least for those of us who liked to dance). So I don't think it works.
