How are the U.S. troops in Iraq fighting for the freedom of the American people? How are our freedoms being threatened in the first place? How exactly are U.S. soldiers combatting this threat to our freedoms? How will we know when our freedoms are safe and secured? I am not looking for metaphorical answers, or indirect, vague, passionate rhetoric, I want straightforward neutral facts. Thank you.

Hi "Taking It All In..."

Fact: Requesting a focused answer and not one that is based on deceptive tangential rhetoric is not only authentic, but also focused, direct, and more effective inquiry. Why are you so afraid of the truth that you defend the techniques for avoiding it? By the way I don't thank you, I'm embarrassing you. And your welcome.

By the way asking for fact-based answers is not inhibiting free speech. In fact if you'll recall it is the passionate, emotional, blindly patriotic type of retorts and language which were commonly used to stifle free speech when opposition to the Iraq War first started.

I've been saying this all along. My freedom is in no way linked to or threatened by Iraq or its people. The problem is, the goofy powers that be and the "patriotic" citizens of this country think otherwise. I'm in the minority, I guess. But then again, rational and logical people usually are in this particular arena.

Showing people in Iraq that Americans and the Allies are on their side will gain safety in the world.
Look at North Korea, the people probably hate us only because they are told to. If there is war with NK, they will not know when to stop fighting because they only know to hate us.
That is the long term threat that faces the world.
The reason you should know this to be true, you only have to see who is causing the insurgence in Iraq. It's the part of the muslim population that want the U.S. and Allies to fail to continue the hatred toward us. If they win, the hatred will not stop at the Iraqi borders.
The bystanders in Iraq are forced to help the insurgence whether they like it or not, and from their stand point, this way at least they can stay alive.

First and foremost, many out there totally agrees US hv already not only failed in their missions in Iraq, they hv extremel;y cocky and likes to bullies the weaker links.Look at the number of soldiers and innocent ppl that died in Iraq.Do u call this freedom? US are too embarssed to admit they are not even close to winning the war let alone figting the freedom for the ppl of Iraq. Many of us are SICK asnd TIRED of hearing soldiiers died in bomb blast while on patrol etc...honestly the does the US President really give a damn ?.Big deal they hv caught Saddam Hussein..but the real culprit is still Osama Bin Ladin. Its has been over 6 yrs since 9/11..and what exactly hv they done? US may think they are they most powerful country in the world, but many will agrees they are too coward to admit they are still fighting a war that will last forever and they will not even get close to winning. For those who KIA (killed in action)and thier families whom lost their loved ones who could easily be their son/husband/brother/uncle/nephew,its going to take time to heal. But apparently its not bothering President George Bush and he's still sending more troops. With Osama still at large there wont be peace for anyone of us.

Revised:

Fact: Asking questions and then dictating the only form and type of answers you will accept isn't authentic inquiry--it is forcing others into silence or agreement with you. By definition war is neither neutral nor impassionate........and most of the answers you have gotten here are indirect and non-factual and opinion-based.

Isn't one of the points the Dixie Chicks actually made quite eloquently.....that the right to speek their opinion regardless of its popularity IS freedom (and a principle America was founded on?)

PS--I'm not embarressed...because expressing an opinion is totally American and a freedom won for me by others. (hhhhhmmm, interesting concept, might be applicable in the Iraq in some way) Many have fought for me and for you for that right and clearly we will both continue to exercise it when and where we like--in the US we all can! ANd for that we should both be thankful.

And for the record there are two opinions I hold: 1) I am against continuing this war in this fashion. Based on what we knew at the time, we went for the right reasons; now based on what we know we are staying for the wrong ones. 2) I am against any attempts to inhibit free and open speech, particularly when it is selectively exercised to suit a particular purpose.

I don't believe U.S troops they fight for freedom
I believe they just fight for stay alive

well if we want to have safety life we should not allow
people like Bush to become a President
everybody know about the secret government is running
this country this is not anymore America everything
you see happen is about money and power
and who use words like liberty or freedom
is just a *bit* rhetoric propaganda .

after Bush was elected I remember what I say to my wife
"quote" we go to war"end quote"

there is alot people they become billionaire
with the afghanistan and Iraq war
Bush it does not care about Iraqis

this is not a war for freedom nobody care if iraqi
they can live a life like we do here in US

of course the soldier before was send in this mess
maybe was the only one to believe in the Bush's propaganda but I speak
with many veterans and everybodys they tell me
the same thing is a bloody war for money and power
nothing else vietnam number two...

Bush has made more damages in this country and for the rest of the world more to what terrorists they ever done
the problem people they can not see that " not yet"

you can not find the truth by listen to CNN or FOXNEWS

Up until recently I were against this war. Now I just want it to end. Islam is moving fast up the charts. They hate most all of the people that do not believe in Islam, and if you don't believe they will behead you. There is fighting everywhere. Some of the Countries I never knew existed. They are establishing their Islam anywhere they can. If our Soldiers and the Coalition Forces do not stop them, then I sure we will be fighting them here on the soil of America. Hezbollah has already set up his terror inside our Country & are waiting for the right time to spring into action.Personally I feel all Muslims Mosque should be shut-down. This is not a house of prayer, this is were they can hide their arsnal of weapons & more artilley.
And then kill the American citizens.

They are not, unless you believe in the war on terror scam. Fighting for our freedom to be removed is more like it. The patriot act has since the war been applied and we have fewer freedoms than ever before.Shouldn't we be in Saudi Arabia? After all 9/11 started this war campaign and all the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. Well 9 of them are miraculously still alive, but still. Research the facts.

i might desire to work out them struggling with for our freedom approximately 5 miles down the line here the place the Border Patrol is normally outgunned via Mexican Drug Gangs. I continuously theory protecting our borders replaced into thier activity. They have been protecting our freedom whilst they defeated the Iraqi Fleet off cellular. purely like whilst the Alabama Air safeguard defeated the VietCong Fleet. As for Democracy, we've grew to become Iraq right into a killing container rivalling Pol Pots Cambodia. virtually the full Christian inhabitants, which lived below Sadaam has fled and are actually refugees. the government we help is a sham and the army is a shiite protection rigidity I did 2 excursions in Vietnam and not in any respect fooled myself into believing i replaced into saving united states of america of america. i replaced into struggling with Communism.

Good point...... well taken. This whole mess that Bush has got us into is a total catastrophe. President Bush's actions are not making any sense. The entire Administration is turning out to be nothing but lies, lies, lies. These people's "hidden agenda" is obvious. Bush probably wants to stay in Iraq long enough so he can invade Iran. You think?

This has been my question......"Why couldn't the military perform a temporary 2 week pullout just to see what happens?"

If all hell breaks loose they can always go back in.

If everybody rejoices and it turns out to be a "country wide celebration".........then we claim victory and stay out.

I'll tell you one thing though.....Iran treats their prisoners a hell ova lot better then Bush treats his.

personally i feel that racism still exists its concealed but its out there. sadly you see some of these people on yahoo answers posting stupid comments and you can tell who they are. they make ignorant comments with no facts or no sense of reality, they usually say something like "bomb them to the stone age", "Our Freedom is being threatened" its our way or the highway <~~~hello that does not sound very democratic infact it sounds like a dictator. the us soldiers are brave and i wish them the best for being there but they are fighting for oil. and if you dont support the war these people claim that you dont support the troops. its all a bunch of bull.
