Learning Annex teaching Pornography. What do YOU think?
There is an actual school called the Learning Annex in Los Angeles that has classes on "How to make money in the Adult Business." They teach you how to make videos, post things online, etc. In other words, how to become a pornographer.
I contacted the National Organization for Women about this, and they were very rude to me; they told me that they don't get involved in "things like that" and to not "waste their time." "If you don't like it, don't take the class."
So, it's ok for the image of women to be pornographic images? Oh, sure, I am sure that helps women improve via empowerment!
How disgusting!
Women don't care?
Ok. That's how I tried to help (I am a man).
Here's MY question: What can you do about this?!

Steph,

Women's Studies is supposed to teach you that women are equal to men. We are both human beings and therefore should be treated equally. Women should get equal pay, have equal access to education, and have equal opportunities in life. Women should be respected by men as they respect other men--or disrespect, if warranted.

I thoroughly disrespect you because you do not understand that pornography is disrespectful to women. If you want to think that men are "slaves" you can HIDE from reality that way.

In a porn movie, the woman is clearly the one being USED by the man. Men also market and sell the video of their "conquests." There is nothing for the women in these films to be proud of.

Porn is demeaning to women, selling sex rather than intellect is an easy but terrible way to make a living.

Porn leads to prostitution. Do you think that's ok, too? (Because men are "slaves")?

In porn and prostitution, who is PAYING for the service? That is the "master."

I should think that NOW would care more about this. Maybe they're busy with the ERA revival — which, really, is more important.

I'm ambivalent about pornography. If it must exist at all, women must choose whether they want to partake in it or not. But I would prefer getting rid of it. It has no useful purpose.

There are probably some feminist organizations in L.A. that are planning to deal with this. Look some up and contact them.

I'm not shocked by prostitution or by porn. Some people do it, it's their "choice".

What shocks me here is that there is a SCHOOL that gives such classes. I mean, first of all, it's a rip off, because you can do that easily yourself without taking classes. There are ways to do that. But that's not the point.

I don't think society should diabolize porn or prostitution (I think it should be legal), but I don't think you should make them sound to be ideal jobs. Women who answered that those who take those classes have the right to do so, and that if they feel empowered by doing so should do it, probably don't know any prostitutes or porn actresses. Most girls in this business don't do it for pleasure. Some of them do, but it's very unusual.

But more importantly, the only reason they are offering such classes is merely to make money. Why is porn so big in America, or in Western countries in general? Because it brings money, and that's the only reason they try to make it sound so great.

People will always find a way to justify their actions. If they couldn't find a way to justify their actions, they couldn't do what they want to do. No one wants to feel like they are doing something wrong or bad, so they pretty up their justifications with things like - expressing oneself, freedom of speech, it's okay to do what we want as long as it doesn't hurt others, etc. . . . . The funny thing about porn - most people hide the fact that they are using it, they hide their magazines, toys, DVD's, etc, whether they have children in the home or not. It's kinda funny, really - porn is saying "be open with sex - it means nothing - it's all just to feel good" but we hide it because we are embarassed if people know we use it especially the real "kinky" stuff. We wouldn't want our friends to know if we liked gang rape videos or lesbian/gay videos, etc. We don't want them to know that we like spankings or anal sex, etc. . .

Porn destroys. Those who justify using it will not acknowledge the lives and relationships that are destroyed by it as they can't. They wouldn't feel comfortable with it, then, if they knew the truth so denial reins in today's society. All each individual person can do is not purchase it and to turn away from it should they come in contact with it. Like drugs, just say no.

It is sad that women use there body's to get some where in life it does not look good on the girls that want to make a honest living and taken seriously. It is not some thing that should be OK but there are things going on in the word that we can try to stop things that we don't like but that is all we can do.
Get other people that fill the same and stand out front and yell with signs saying what you fill.

i find it frightening.

i am bothered by the mind-set of persons to earn from the disrespectfully created image/behaviours of girl/boy man/woman in society.

but the reason it troubles me most is that bad art and bad relationship is fostered (conceivably) greatly by technological transmissions.

that is....the lost and out-cast of society seek acceptance among those that will advantage their losses.....and very few will gain in the short-term.

what can i do...?.....i just did it. and short of smashing the implement of their creation to pieces about all else that can be done is to show people why it is done in the first place.

pornography offends me and i don't like to think of my self as a prude. i just detest cheap love ... sex for hire. it grosses me out. it is incomplete. but certainly those within the productions will learn a lot about others ... by their grief.

i just to happen to be a women's studies major at MSU...but I think everybody should be able to express themselves however they want, porn or not. if somebody wants to be a porn star..cool. last i checked, america is "supposed" to be a free country. unfortunately some people just don't understand the true meaning of -free-
and it makes me sick when people say that porn portrays women in a bad way...but what about men? they're naked showing their "stuff" to everybody too, being "slaves" for women. if it bothers you, just don't pay attention. its not affecting your life in any way.

It's allowed and always will be allowed, yet I can decide whether or not I want to go and do something like that, of course, I've chosen not to. What can I do about it? In truth as I have told you I can make a decision.

Women should be able to express themselves sexually however they want. If that means being double plugged in front of a classroom of virgin teenaged women then you and the patriarchy have no say in that.
