Origins and powers (even names) change throughout different generations of comic fans. So, whoever might be the most powerful one day may not be the next.
However, from my generation, I believe The Spectre could 'will' Superman, or anyone for that matter, to simply cease to exist.
I can't remember for sure, but I think it may have been God, Himself, who gave The Spectre his powers.

In terms of raw power, it would have to be either The Composite Superman or The Spectre.

The Composite Superman was Joe Meach, a custodian at the Superman museum. He hated and resented Superman and Batman for being heroes while he was a nobody.

He accidentally acquired the powers of the ENTIRE Legion of Super Heroes (60’s version). If his powers hadn’t worn off, he would have killed Superman, Batman and Robin all at once.

You can read the classic appearances of The Composite Superman at the ‘Superman Through the Ages’ site.

You might want to look up the Spectre on Toonopedia and Wikipedia. He is basically God’s appointed agent of supernatural retribution against those who do evil. He is more powerful than all the other heroes in the DC universe.

The dark night returns was a lame excuse for a graphic novel and alternated future, doesn't count. The one character of D.C./Wizz that everyone forgot was Captain Marvel/ Shazam!
He originally was an independent comic until D.C.s lawsuit and then was sold to D.C. D.C. decided that they had a omnipotent hero already and shelved Capt. Marvel using him from time to time. Now why is he the strongest? In the original series of Capt. Marvel he was indestructible, no weakness' at all except when he returned to his original self of Billy. Capt. Marvel was the guardian of the Earth chosen and empowered by the gods. He was also used once to bring down Superman, didn't take him long.

In terms of raw POWER? Probably Superman. It is has been said that conceptually Superman's powers know no limits.

However... The Green Lantern Corps are possibly the most powerful beings in DC. Since their rings no longer have a weakness against yellow, there is probably nothing they cannot do or effect.

A couple of the guys are right Superman is one of the most powerful but he isn't The Spectra is the most powerful his powers were giving to him by God himself making him somewhat of an angel he is a force of God that governs the earth with Gods power he should easily have a strenght that No sun can grant and Superman could only dream of having.Sometimes I can't understand why he didn't just think the anti monitor away or just knock the life out of anyone that causes evil .I mean he has the power of God within him meaning he could simply wipe out all creation and rewrite it easily.I guess you wouldn't have anyother storylines. The Spectra is only been rivaled by the Living Tribunal who is marvels most powerful character. they faught to a standstill it was amazing. The Spectra is DC's most powerful character.

that is arguable for many motives, pondering the main effectual superheroes all have vulnerabilities that different superheroes would use. as an occasion, Batman includes around kryptonite- Superman's weak spot. If I have been to record a superb 3, it could be Spectre, Raven, and Superman.

Batman. He took Superman down in the Dark Knight Returns. Mind over matter.

Wonder Woman. Because not only can she kick a$$, force people to tell the truth, and fly an invisible plane, she also has the feminine power of seduction and a great set of cans.
