No, that was the real lesson learned during the Civil War. Slavery was the superficial reason, but the real reason the war started was because South Carolina did not recognize the federal government's legislation banning slavery and it tried to secede.

Yes, Texas is the only state that joined the union which can legally leave; however, it is extremely unlikely.

No and it is unconstitutional. Just to clarify, Texas cannot break away from the union, but can break into five states.
