Two unrelated species will not produce fertile eggs.
Although they sort of look alike, Painteds and Sliders ARE NOT closely related.
They will only rarely mate, even. For mating to happen, the male will court the female, and each species has a different ritual. If the female does not respond the right way, mating will not occur.
Sometimes, a turtle will 'mount' another, but this is not true mating, it is a sign of dominance and aggression and often indicates that the tank is too small.

Ok, thats a stupid question. If a black person and a white person had babies, would some of the kids be white and some black? No they would be MIXED.
Not to mention painteds and RES shouldn't be together because RES are very aggressive and painteds are laid back, in general.
Turtles become sexually mature at a size, not an age. Its at about 5-6" long that they become active. i have a trio of russian torts that the male(at 4.5") is infatuated with my 5" female. Eggs probably wont be produced this year, but I'm hoping ^.^

Conditions have to be perfect for turtles to mate. It is unlikely that they will mate at all. Why do you want to breed mixed turtles? Why do you want to breed turtles at all? You do know that they live more than 60 years, right?
Do you have a plan for them once you no longer want them as pets? Have you thought about sending them to a refuge? Look up these options because once turtles are domesticated, they lose their ability to hibernate and will die if you let them go. This is cruel.

You're nuts! I feel bad for your poor turtles. You'll never figure out how to incubate an egg anyway. No clue!

How old/big is your slider?. There's a good answer below and I would guess a male from what you have said. Is his tail pointy (male) or more rounded/blunt (female)?
