If you aren't at peace with yourself and accept where you are at this stage in your life you can be surrounded by loved ones and feel lonely. You can be in a crowd and be so lonely you want to scream. Ever watch "a" (singular possessive) grandparent during a holiday when they thought nobody was looking? I have seen my grandmother get a look on her face that says she is lonely for her departed husband even if she is surrounded by family members that love her. That is one reason the divorce rate is so high. Two lonely people meet fall in love (they think), get married and to their shock and horror find out they are still very much as lonely, if not more so, than before they were married. Once you accept where you are in life and make peace with it only then can make plans to change what you don't like about your life. People have to remember that for the most part they are in control of their lives and have to be responsible for themselves and their own happiness and well being. And happiness and well being and not being lonely doesn't come from a bottle or a baggie or a pill bottle. I know, oh how I know.

Loneliness...is feeling as if no one truly knows how you feel or truly cares to understand you. Of course, even in love, there's always some doubting; we often doubt whether or not other people love us because they unintentionally do things that bother us in some way, and because we can't read others' minds. Faith is hard to uphold. So, yes, you definitely can feel lonely even if others claim that they love you, simply because you feel that they don't truly understand you or are as close to you as you wish they were. Additionally, if you purposely isolate others or intentionally put yourself in situations in which you are isolated, loneliness is a common and powerful factor; you may be loved, and just not know it, thus causing loneliness.
