Just so you know, I've had 3 kids and my first 2 were twin girls!! So, I speak from experience when i say all is fine and yes it's normal for your hip area and lower back to be in pain. It should end around the beginning of your 3rd trimester....Ya see..the top of your uterus is about halfway between your pubic bone and navel, so that's why you're feeling so much pressure. Just try and rest when you're feeling pain. I preferred laying on my left side w/ pillow btwn legs...good luck

I am only 9 weeks pregnant and have exactly what you describe. It is caused by a hormone called relaxin, which loosens all your joints to allow a baby to pass through your pelvis. The increased blood flow to the area may also contribute to the ache. Rubbing it, a warm (not hot) bath or heat packs help. I have a heat pack on my back as I type. This is my fourth baby and I have had backache with all of them...worse this time however due to the fact that I have had 3 other pregnancies that have stretched all my muscles. You and your baby will be fine. Unfortunately backache can occur til you give birth and sometimes even continue after. Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Congratulations on your pregnancy. The pain unfortunately probably is related to pregnancy, and the back pain associated with pregnancy is normal. It could be something else, but most likely it is related to pregnancy. I had severe lower back pain with my pregnancy. I used a reuseable heating pack, as in one that is made of cloth and contained lavendar, and you heat it in the microwave.
I don't think that an electrical heating pad would be good for the baby, the emf's put off could be dangerous. All electrical products emit (electric magnetic fields) and potentially carry radiation also. So this is always something to consider. I am not a professional, but had holistic medical treatment for my pregnancies and was warned against using them during my pregnancy. There is always womenshealth.gov if you would like more info... I hope that this is helpful to you. Also, I am hopeful that you have a healthy pregnancy and baby. God Bless.

Congrats!! When you are pregnant your hips will hurt because they are part of your pelvis and during pregnancy the pelvic bones and hips widen to prepare for delivery since the baby will be coming through the opening in the bottom of your pelvis (unless your baby is like mine was 9 lbs. 4 oz. and had a head 3 inches bigger around than average lol, he was perfectly healthy he just had a big head). In which case a C-section was necesary. Good luck!

ohh yeah girl back pain is so normal in your 2nd and 3rd trimester. yes you can use a heating pad..low setting though. Also sometimes if I want to go to the mall or on a long walk I use those icy hot back patches and that way I have some relief already started before it gets to bad!! Good luck and sorry to say but it will not get better till after you have the baby!!

When you get pregnant your body starts to produce a hormone-Relaxin-- to relax and soften your joints so the baby can be birthed more easily and this will cause hip, back, and pelvic pain. Also, the growing uterus puts more pressure on the ligaments and they can cause pain as well.
When sleeping use a full body pillow to put under your belly and between your legs.
Tylenol is safe during pregnancy but may not help much.
Get a massage if at all possible.
Heating pads are safe during pregnancy as long as you use common sense--no longer than 10minutes at a time and don't put it directly on your tummy.

I didn't experience back pain, but I did have strange pains in my chest like the skin was stretching. I think any weird pain would be attributed to the baby. It is probably sitting on your pelvis or something. Try to avoid being on your feet a lot. If you work a full time job, try to shift the weight or prop up one leg on a step or book.
About the heating pad, as long as it doesn't hurt you, it won't hurt the baby.

I honestly don't know what your hip pain could be, the only thing I can come up with would be round ligament pain, but then again, I didn't start getting that until around 30 weeks. I would definitely touch base with your obgyn and get in to see him/her. I do know that using a heating pad is safe, just keep it to a low/medium heat level. Regular strength tylenol is also safe to take in moderation while pregnant. good luck and congrats on pregnancy!!! make sure you get in to see your doc.

My hips hurt SOOOO bad while I was pregnant. I had to sleep on the couch for the last 4 months!! Yes! Use a heating pad, I did and it helped lots. Change positions often too, so you don't get stiff. Take Tylenol, it is safe to take while pregnant. Good Luck!!!! And yes, it's definately the baby.

Katy,
You should see your doctor. Exercising helps pregnancy pains (& makes for an easier delivery), you could look into yoga & pilates, & if you have the money; massages, chiropractor work & acupuncture may help as well.
You should also look into natural herbs & remides (because you may be deficient) & a natural prenatal, there is so much artificial crap & pesticides in commercial brands & you want the best for baby!!!
I would recommend a natural hot/cold heating wrap that you can microwave. I used to use an electric one but I was told that it is bad for the electrical currents to be near your body, especially if you use it all night long. You can find pads online & I've seen them in the malls, they smell fantastic as well!!!
I use this brand - http://herbalpack.net/
Hope this helped, best wishes to you & your beautiful baby!!! - Stephanie S.
