It depends on when you believe conception takes place--some people, myself included, believe that the moment the egg and sperm meet a life is formed and conception has taken place. Others believe that conception is 6-12 days later when the fertlized egg implants in the uterus.

The date of conception is the day the sperm fertilizes the egg which should be the day of or after ovulation. Now sperm can live up to 5 days so you could have sex 5 days before you ovulate and end up pregnant. I also wanted to note that they way they figure out your edd is determined using a 28day cycle, or 2wks before you ovulate. Implantation usually occurs 6-13 days after fertilization.

The moment of conception is when the sperm gets into the egg. So it could be any time from the time you have sex to hours later if the sperm are still in there looking for it.

The semen is viable for awhile as it travels up the uterus and fallopian tubes. When the conception takes place, the zygote implants in the uterus, if it doesn;t, the whole thing is aborted naturally and you don;t even know.

I would say hours, on average

Usually the doctors begin counting at the last menstrual period. Whatever that date is subtract 3 months and add 7 days. This is referred to as Nagele's rule and once you do that it will give you your EDD (estimated date of delivery) or EDC (estimated date of completion).

subtract 3 months add 7 days.
