Wow. I just finished it too and just handed in my essay. Although, mine was about why the boys broke apart. Except, i understand the book. So i will try and help.

Ralph had more sense and concentrated on getting rescued by having a fire.

He didnt turn into a savage.

And he was kind and had a big heart towards the littleuns and wanted the best for everyone.

Jack however,

Only payed attention to hunting and trying to get food.

Turned into a savage

Stole Piggy's glasses for a fire

Got jealous of Ralph for being the chief

I hope that's what youre looking for. If not, you can email me

and I will try and help you out more.
Good luck!! =]

They have filmed it twice. The older Peter Brooks film is very close to the book and is worth seeing. The newer version is American and defeats the whole purpose of the book by having all the boys from a military academy where a hierarchy is already established. It would have worked had only some of the boys come from the school in the same way that Jack's group were a choir in the original but to have them all knowing each other beforehand is pointless.

The whole book represents the fall of society. Ralph is the civil one jack is a crazy wilda beast savage type. Also, the conch represents order - because he uses it to call order . but then when jack doesnt respect teh conch anymore it shows order gone to hell out the window. and when they kill piggy and set the island on fire it pretty much shows that these young boys started thier own society on this island and it decayed , its a smaller represnetation of the big world and how society decays. good luck

well LOTF is sorta like watching an episode of survivor..

there are people who wish to work...who wish to find basic necessities of life like water/food/shelter..

and then there are those people who just want to lay around all day...they want to have fun and figure someonelse will do the work...

usually there emerges a leader in both of these groups such as Ralph and Jack...which leads to bickering and fighting ..
for their can't be 2 leaders.

I would also consider that Ralph tried to stay civilized,,he wanted order maintained..he wanted rules..

whereas Jack want native..shed his "clothes" and acted like a savage..

LOTF really is about keeping one's humanity

Go to Spark notes. I read it a long time ago and I remember one was a democratic and other authoritarian. Or get a Cliffs notes version. Either way there would be plenty on the subject, I know it was a pervasive theme.
