I am graduating with a B.S. in Finance and a minor in banking and financial services. I have been told that the best position to apply for is a Personal Banker I position..... as this will give me the experience and ability to pursue a variety of avenues in the future. Is this true? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Most banking employees start at the bottom and work their way up.

Bottom = teller. After you get the idea of how you are paid, you are then moved into your specialty. (at least that is how it was for a family member of mine that worked in a bank).

All of the management of the bank where he was employed served time behind the cage - including the President and the CEO.

A degree does not equal a banking job. What they are looking for is a background for customer service, sales, cash handling, loan experience or a combination of any of these. Send out your resumes to as many banks, credit unions, and savings and loans, and then work from there. Like I said, sales is huge right now, so make sure you mention that you are good at this. If you have your degree, but no experience in the areas listed above, you may try for a "back office" position as well.
