You are hearing the electricity arcing inside of the switch.
I would replace the switch.

Sounds like loose wiring. Your house I assume has a good system of circuit breakers, so a short circuit would simply trip a circuit breaker and not start a fire. It is a good idea to simply replace or check out the light switch. Do it in the daytime with the switch turned to off, take off the plate cover, pull it out and see if the electrical leads need tightening down. If the connection is good, just replace the whole light switch for less than $10.00.

Yes, it means that it is arcing inside and could cause a fire or trip the breaker. You may have too big a load for the switch rating, in that case get a switch with a higher rating for the amps say a 20 amp switch. Get it fixed.

The fact that while it is still working it does not make you safe. You should replace it with a new one. Replacing it is very simple as two ac wires does not require polarity check (positve and negative) you can interchange them. But before you do that, be sure to switch off your circuit breaker.

Hope this helps

It sounds like that's arcing because of a loose connection interior the change. Bit questioned however because of fact curiously such as you're utilising a dimmer-change. customary capability saving bulbs are no longer generally dimmable. in spite of the fact that, the worst element you're able to do isn't something. in my view, if i replaced into on your place, i could turn off the offending lighting fixtures circuit on your fuse board until your sparky comes out.

yes, it means that the connections in the wiring are loose and could potentially cause a fire - you need to make an easy repair to make sure that the contacts are clean or replace the switch
