No for two reasons. He did not live in a slave state, and two his family was dirt poor. The real question is, would he have owned a slave if he had the money to buy one?
BTW if he was so anti salvery why did he take so long to free the slaves? It was a poltical move to ensure that England who purchased mucho cotton for its textile mills would need to make a choice between the free North and the slave south.
Textiles is one of the reasons Britain started a war and took over India.

A reminder to patois, Ulysses S. Grant did NOT own slaves at the time he was a General, nor at the time he was the President. Grant gave his slave, William Jones, his freedom in the late 1850s, rather than sell him for the much-needed cash - he and his family were farmers at the time.

Lincoln was not actually that big on freeing the slaves. If you read his personal journals he was as much a racist as anyone during that time period. The Civil War was all about politics, nothing pure or honorable, that was just political posturing.

Not Abraham Lincoln, the President. General Grant, on the other hand, did have one and freed the man.

No, he was from Kentucky and then moved to Illinois. Generally, slavery was not profitable the farther north you went. And, he was not an abolitionist either. But, he was a great man. And, I wish he had lived longer.
