Godsmack... Metallica is nothing but a bunch of greedy old men and their sound is dated. (BTW- a couple in Sweden named their daughter Metallica and the gov't is blocking them from officially doing so..... weird! I bet if Metallica found out they'd charge them for the use of their name yearly)

Metallica.....They have a more original sound. Godsmack is good but....most of their songs sound the same and have the same riffs and drum rolls. Metallica's Battery and master of Puppets...NOBODY can play them songs like they do. As for them being old...I DON'T THINK SO...They still jam and jam hardcore. I just don't picture a band like Godsmack being around as long as Metallica has and I don't think they will have as many hits. All personal opinion.

Metallica because they have accomplished more. Metallica has been around a lot longer. Plus they have awesome guitar in it, all In all i just generally like the sound of metallica better.

Metallica is innovative, creative, writes better songs than just about every other heavy metal band (these are all pre-1991, just FYI), and like Bob Marley with raggae, they perfected and popularized a formerly obscure genre of music.
Godsmack is an Alice in Chains clone, except with less interesting, more generic melodies and poor lyrics.

Neither... But prolly Godsmack more since Sonny was in Strip Mind before which was soo much better than both of those bands!

Godsmack wins--and I don't know a dam* song they have out.
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich just HAD to push the Napster lawsuit so hard--he lost my respect and admiration I carried for the band, who once embraced BOOTLEGGERS to help promote them during their lean unknown days.
Metallica's hypocrisy cost them my being a fan of theirs.

metallica has contributed soooo much more to rock music and guitarists. they were the "gods of rock" in 80's early 90's. hammet has inspired nearly as many guitarist as eddie van halen.
godsmack is good but they are not as unique
(for lack of a better word) as metallica.
