Yes, I know what Kristallnacht was. It took place on November 9, 1938, and was an attack against the Jews organized by the Nazis throughout Germany, in which they incited the citizens to vandalize, deface, and burn Jewish property, including thousands of shops and synagogues. While Hitler and the Nazi party had slowly taken away Jewish rights and had persecuted individual Jews well before that, prior to Kristallnacht it had been possible for German Jews to believe that this was just a passing phase, or to think that maybe the incidents which occurred had been somehow provoked by the individual victims. Kristallnacht was such a massive, coordinated event, that the intent of the Nazis toward the Jews became instantly clear for many, and those Jews who had remained in Germany immediately tried to get out by whatever means necessary.

"Kristallnacht, also known as Reichskristallnacht, Pogromnacht, Crystal Night and the Night of Broken Glass, was a pogrom[1] against Jews throughout Germany and parts of Austria on November 9–10, 1938.

Jewish homes were ransacked in numerous German cities along with 8,000 Jewish shops, towns and villages,[2] as civilians and stormtroopers destroyed buildings with sledgehammers, leaving the streets covered in smashed windows — the origin of the name "Night of Broken Glass." Jews were beaten to death; 30,000 Jewish men were taken to concentration camps; and 1,668 synagogues ransacked with 267 set on fire." Direct quote from Wikipedia.org below.

This was what the Germans called "Crystal Night". During the war, Nazis came through towns and tore it to pieces. The rubbish (rocks, bricks, etc..) were thrown at Jews and houses. This was called Crystal Night because what caught the survivors the most in interest was the glass and crystal, shattered all over the room.
