I graduated in 2004 with a BS in biotechnology. I had a great experience. The school itself is pretty big, but the departments are fairly small. They have a large variety of programs and all seem to be good, some are excellent. If you read some of the comments on line about the school you will find a lot of negative information, but i think they come from people who were just unhappy with their choice from the beginning. It's on a quarter system like the UCs and tends to go a lot faster. The benefit however is having a summer quarter to take classes. All the professors I had were great and had an open door policy, meaning if the door is open come and talk.

I don't know much about student life on campus, I have heard some complaints, but that's common on every campus. It's a bit tucked away from the busy life, but you can find anything to do within 20 minutes. Plus they have really cool horses.

Right now it seems to be one of the more successful of the CSUs. I went there a long time ago and had a good experience, but I have spoken with recent graduates (and I know a number of people on faculty), and they seem to be happy with what they got out of it. As at any CSU, you won't get much individual guidance in deciding what you want to do, if that doesn't fall into place naturally.
