Any steel or iron. Not copper. Any alloys containing iron can be magnetized. The other things that can be magnetized are cobalt and nickel and their alloys, and some new ceramic materials.

In addition to iron and any form of steel (steel's basically just iron that's been chemically altered/tampered with), I'm pretty sure nickel, cobalt, tungsten, and zinc can be magnetized. Copper cannot. The zinc and cobalt I'm certain of, anyway. Titanium might be subject to magnetization. Possibly cadmium too.
Any ferrous metal can be magnetized though, not just iron.

Iron being a soft magnetic material will not be useful for permanent magnet but can be temprarily magnetised. Fully annealed austenitic stainless steels and copper cannot be magnetised.
Carbon steels, low alloy steels, tool steels and ferritic stainless steels can be magnetised permanently.
