my family would kill me if I didn't stick by my man through his poor health... even though you don't have the paperwork or the ceremony to say it, you should stick to your partner... friends through thick and thin...

I am partnered and wed..but I know that my extended family would never expect this of me even if we weren't married. I don't know who did this to you --but I don't think I would even abandon a person in need that I didn't like...

I've never encountered that. I would NEVER abandon my partner.
No, we can't legally marry, but our souls and our lives are entwined as one. If my family suggested such a thing, I would not speak to them again.
My family has always supported me and adore my partner, so if they said something like that it would extremely out of character and I'd wonder about their collective mental health.

If my partner is ill and not able to wed my family will expect me some possibilities :
1)wait until her illness will be recovered if it can be cured in a short time
2)get married with her if we love each other and can not be separated and then try hard to cure my wife
3)cancelled the marriage if according to doctor'advice she could not be cured and her life is only a short time left and then try to get another one.

I don't have a family, and if I did, they could go to hell for making such a suggestion. I intend to be with my partner for the rest of my life, health problem or not!

My family would not expect me abandon my partner in such an instance, and if they would have such an expectation I would no longer consider them a part of my family and explicitly tell them why.

My cousin would beat me senseless if I ever did that, and beat me halfway there if he ever heard me contemplate that! My dad would probably help him too! As well as my sister, and myself! I would never do that! It looks like you just found someone with a horrible family and/or a bad personality.

I am so sorry your relatives were so awful to you.
Some of mine would be the same way, but some others know how tight our bond is and would be very disappointed in me if I didn't stick by her.

I have to comment about the person who said next time go find someone with AIDS.
LISTEN UP ANSWERER AND LISTEN UP GOOD. I HAVE RESEARCHED AIDS AND HIV. GUESS WHAT!!! THE GAY COMMUNITY HAS LESS AIDS AND HIV THEN THE STRAIGHT COMMUNITY. THE GAY COMMUNITY IS VERY AWARE OF THE AIDS AND HIV. THE AIDS AND HIV IS STILL AROUND BECAUSE OF STRAIGHT PEOPLE SPREADING IT TO THEIR PARTNERS. WHY? BECAUSE IN THE UNITED STATES THE AIDS AND HIV EPIDEMIC WAS INTRODUCED IN THE WRONG WAY. THE USA WAS MISINFORMED FROM THE GET GO OF HOW HIV AND AIDS WAS CONTRACTED. GET A CLUE, IT DID NOT JUST START FROM THE GAY COMMUNITY. ALL WE HAD IN THE USA WAS ROCK HUDSON DYING FROM AIDS. HUDSON WAS GAY. SO ALL YOU UNEDUCATED AMERICANS WHO THINK HIV AND AIDS WAS CREATED FROM GAY PEOPLE. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!
