Bide your time... Find out what bothers them. Be polite, but not a suck up, and push their buttons without obvious effort or malice in front of other people, causing them to frequently lose their cool and look like idiots. Usually, what bothers people like this the most is your failure to respond to their actions.

I used to have a sergeant like this. After one long, horrendous @$$-chewing session for my failure to write hundreds of tickets, he yelled at me, "Do you have anything to say!!?!?!?"

I paused, and calmly said, "Yeah. Are you through?"

I thought he'd have a freaking stroke! The veins on his head bulged out and his whole face turned red. His face shook as he tried to control himself. He eventually said, "No!", and turned and left.

I learned this lesson, and continued to taunt him into losing control in front of (get this) the union lawyer. Exxxxxcellllent......!! Mandatory psych counseling cramped his style quite a bit....

#1 - "Kill 'em...with kindness." :-)
The happier you are, and careless about what they're up to, will just allow you to shine. Definitely not easy. But, you'll win out in the end. You are at work to work - not to gossip, or for a fashion show etc...

#2 - Don't give them any information about yourself. Keep personal issues out of earshot.

#3 - Don't leave the position because of them. You are going to find people like that in ANY job you have. I swear, there's always that one person... lol. But really, until the job itself is something you can't bear...hang in there.

Good Luck!

I would find a different job. I mean with any job your not happy with, you should just find something that you feel better siuted with. Have you considered soul-searching for what your really good at? Maybe you could work for yourself and be happy.

Keep them close. Don't give them any personal or work related info that they can use against you or that you don't want other people to know.
