That a person who is surrounded by many others, could just get lost in the shuffle, and no one really gets to know them.

The Native Americans who were forced to live on reservations. They see that it was not them who were nothing compared to everyone else, but the people who put them out there who had no real place in the world.

One who lives in a large community is just one in the crowd or a drop in the ocean. He loses his individuality, when compared to people who may be physically segregated but still maintain their unique culture.
