Q.E.D.

Fear of individual freedom is at the core of the modern American conservatism. One can only assume this results from conservatives projecting their sublimated rage and sexuality onto others.

Absolutely spot on. Liberals promote individual liberties, that is to say, individual and social freedoms. Freedom from oppressive government is the very core of what America once represented, and the Statue of Liberty is testament to that.

Under the neo-cons, America has become more of a police state than ever. It has internal aggression and surveillance, and outward military aggression against sovereign nations. It's sanctioned and institutionalised the use of torture and rendition, and brought shame on what was once called "the land of the free" by imprisoning hundreds of suspects without trial for over 5 years.

Most frighteningly, the neo-cons have got Americans so scared that they've been brainwashed with a kind of Orwellian doublethink: "Liberal does not equal Liberty, Make War for Peace, Hate Others if you Love America, Invasion will give Iraqis Freedom..."

It's fascinating. So many Americans who are willing to give up their fundamental freedoms to purchase a little temporary safety.

No, because Liberals choose a device the position the federal authorities is in complete administration of each and every element of our existence. Many even prefer to take it a step extra and globalize this theory. Liberals hate liberty as a lot as any Neocon.

Liberalism supports Socialism which equals prison. Why do you think France has double the suicide rate of the US? Liberals want to stick a gun to the head of people and tell them they must pay most of their income to the govt so the uncle sam can blow it on global warming relief or caring for the needy. That's liberty? But what helps the poor most of all is a free market that can provide good jobs where the poor can learn skills to serve others and increase their income. But serving others is the heinous to liberals; they stand for a 35 hr work week.

What the heck are you talking about? Did you get into someones dictionary again? The last thing the libs want is liberty. Sure, they tie themselves to organizations like the ACLU. But that's the most liberal group out there. There's nothing civil about what they do. I mean, you say I'm against mothers having the liberty to do what they want with their body. I say I'm for the baby's liberty to live. You say potato, I say...you're dumb.

Since when did you get the idea that liberalism is the politics of liberty? You think it is the politics of liberty to want to force everyone into one government-run health care program? To force everyone into a government-run retirement program? To allow choice only when it means the uterus?

Libertarianism is the politics of liberty, not liberalism.

Based on the attacks on civil liberties that have been made by conservatives over the past several years, your theory is quite valid.

You must have too much time on your hands to be thinking of off the wall questions such as this. Remember the words, 'one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all'?? They say it all.

I think liberals fear freedom. That is why they want to tax you more, take more of your money, spend it for you (because they think you are too stupid to spend/invest it yourself), fund huge government programs that tell you how to live, tell you how to take care of yourself, and dictate how you live your life.

Liberals fear freedom. That is why they force more government down your throat.
