Write a balanced equation for each of the following reactions, substituting symbols and formulas for names. Include the state of each reactant and product. Then identify the reaction type for each. If more than one reaction type occurs, list all that apply. Write net ionic equations if they apply.

8) Most industrial production of metallic sodium is accomplished by passing an electric current through molten sodium chloride. Chlorine gas also is produced.

9) Liquid pentane (C5H12) burns, producing water vapor and carbon dioxide.

Predict the products in each of the following reactions. if no reaction occurs, write NR.

4) Rb (s) + CaCl2 (aq)

6) Pt (s) + MnBr2 (aq)

13) F2 (g) + NaI (aq)

14) Zn (s) + AgNO3 (aq)

thank you. oh, and does anyone happen to know any good sites, or advice that'll teach me how to do more of these? i've been needing help on these, and i have a test coming up.

8) 2NaCl(l) ===> 2Na + Cl2(g)

9) C5H12 + 8O2 ===> 5CO2 + 6H2O

Predict the product:

4) Rb + CaCl2(aq) ===> Rb(OH)2(aq) + H2(g) + CaCl2(aq) If the CaCl2 is dissolved in water, rubidium metal will react with the water, you'll get rubidium hydroxide and hydrogen, and the calcium chloride will be unaffected.

6) Pt(s) + MnBr2(aq) ===> no reaction

13) F2(g) + NaI(aq) ===> I'm going to guess no reaction. I know that Cl2(g) would yield NaCl and I2, but the chemistry of fluorine is a wild card.

14) Zn(s) + 2AgNO3(aq) ===> Zn(NO3)2(aq) + 2Ag(s)

1. Correct. 2. The formula in the balanced equation should be 2KClO3, not 2K(ClO3)2 3. 1. Fe + CuSO4--> Cu + FeSO4; 2. Fe + Cu(SO4--> Cu + FeSO4 4. 1. Cl2 + KI --> I2 + KCl; 2. Cl2 + 2KI --> I2 + 2KCl Remember that halogens are diatomic. 5. . N2 + O2 --> NO; 2. N2 + O2 --> 2NO 6. Correct 7. Correct, except you don't need parentheses around the NH4 and OH if there is only one of the groups in a formula (NH4OH). 8. Correct 9. Correct 10. 1. Cu + AgNO3 --> Ag + Cu(NO3)2; 2. Cu + 2AgNO3 --> 2Ag + Cu(NO3)2
