ohk, so i really want to shave my legs, but i am kinda scared to ask my mom because we aren't THAT close. Once i even tried with scissors! At my friends birthday party thats coming up she might wax all our legs and i hope she does.
I also am wondering about nair and veet bladeless things, does it really work?

being indian, my mom didn't understand why i wanted to shave my legs, and like you, im not super close to her either and well, my dad still doesn't understand and i've been shaving for 4 years. so i understand what you're going through.
i just went and told me my mom, repeatedly over the course of weeks, that i was the only girl w/ hairy legs in my grade and i said that i know that ppl made fun of the other girls with hairy legs and that they were probably making fun of me too (but that might not have been true...). and finally, i think i had a few tears in there too, she let me shave.
when i first started shaving i used the nair stuff b/c my mom didn't want my hair to grow back thicker. it worked at first, smelled really bad, but it worked. the only problem is that the last time i used it, i got these bumps all over my legs...i think i was allergic to it but it was weird b/c i wasn't allergic at first, i haven't tried it again yet but i think i will in the winter, when my hair's longer. but i think that most ppl don't have a problem w/ it so you could start out w/ that if ur afraid of blades.
i currently shave w/ a blade and even tho u get razor burn and you might cut yourself sometimes, it's not so bad. i shave maybe every other day. i started out using shaving cream but then i saw this special on t.v. and one of the makup artists said that she used conditioner (i.e. the conditioner for your hair) to shave eyebrows b/c it made a smoother shave. so i tried that and i've been using conditioner ever since, i feel that it works better than shaving cream....
some of my other indian friends' moms wouldn't let them shave so they just took a razor and did it themselves one day. if your mom really won't let u and you're not close enough to ask and u won't get punished (i mean, not that they can do anything once it's gone) then i woudl go for that. take one of your dad's razors, or your mom's if she shaves, and use conditioner or shaving cream. she'll have to let u keep shaving!
on the issue of waxing, i agree that you should be wary of waxing at home...i've never had it professionally done but i did buy nads and tried it at home and it definietly hurt w/o good results.
hope this helps!

Nair and Veet bladeless are really good. The effects last longer than shaving because they dissolve some hair below your skin, rather than just slicing it off like shaving. Be sure to read the instructions though! If your friend waxes your legs be aware that it might not be much like a professional wax you would get at a beauty salon. Beauty therapists take exams to learn how to wax properly. If your friend doesn't get the hand motion and the speed right it will really, really sting! Personally I think waxing is best left to the pros! Good luck though!

why do u need to ask your mom to shave your legs? to buy the razor?
ok so about this thing with you and your mom. shaving isnt like asking to buy a thong for the first time, or asking for a tampon the first time. its shaving. its not gross its not weird, its just shaving. so dont be scared or akward.
waxing is hard at first when u do it by yourself but if u get it done by a pro then the hair doesnt grow back until like forever. (depends on the person but usually like a few weeks)
nair and veet. between the two, i'd suggest veet only because for me, it doesnt sting (nair stings for me for some reason). they're bth like a creamy .. cream thing that u rub on the area you want the hair to be gone. give it a few minutes or so (according to the instructions on the label) to sink in, and then u wipe the cream off. your hair comes off with the cream. (thats where the bladess razor comes in; you can use the baldeless razor to get the cream off, or you can use a sponge. both work like the same.) now, problem with this is, sometimes all the hair doesnt come off; sometimes only like half of it comes off so it just looks like u trimmed your hair. (i tihnk the cream just dissolves the hair somehow) but just experiment w/ it; i mean obviously the longer u leave the cream on for, the more hair it''ll get off right; but DONT go over the time limit that the instructions give u.

Well Nair does work if you have time as well for Veet. Waxing Im not so sure but Shaving is definatly not ok I mean if you're in a hurry its okay but it makes the hairs grow out thicker. Just stick with Nair.

Well, no harm in shaving your legs and in actual fact, recently a new product which lathers on while you shave and I reckon it's pretty gentle on the skin. If you're afraid of cutting yourself, there is a Veet cream in which you can lather in on while you shower, it will break down the protein the folicles. Wash your legs and the hair will come right off. Painless.

Nair works well. Veet has mixed results.
If you decide to try shaving, I recommend Schick Quattro razors (protects against nicks and cuts; close shave) & Aveeno Sensitive Skin Shaving Gel (leaves skin feeling soft, light scent).

When I first started shaving my legs I used Nair and loved it, it smells really bad but it works.
Next time you're at the store just grab some disbosable razors and some shave gel, if she won't buy it for you just buy it yourself.
