I've been having trouble with the computer. I downloaded a free program that was supposed to tell me what was wrong with it and it said that I needed to check the BIOS and update the IDE driver. I have no idea what this means.

Just enter your BIOS with whatever key, and enter your hard drive configuration page. In an Award BIOS, it is the Standard CMOS Features, which is the first option. You can then select your hard drive and hit enter, which will show all the auto configured parameters. For your IDE controller, find the newest driver online, download it and then click Update Driver on the driver tab of your controller in device manager.

you can't set your hard drive to read only through the bios, You do that in windows, right click on a folder and set that folder to share and read only.
