im thinking of getting one but i have sand in my tank so i want to know

Sure. Sand make a great subtrate for plecos, probably better than gravel to be honest.

Yes plecos can live with a sand substrate. It is actually preferred over gravel and other fish tank substrate. It's more comfortable for them to swim on than anything else.

Plecos will do just fine in the sand. Actually my fish wholesaler has some of the biggest plecos I have ever seen in it's gigantic sand filters to keep the algae off the sides.

Yes, that actually should be perfect for it rather than a rocky gravel.
