Can anyone give me the Number of Valence Electrons for:
(The numbers afer the elements are what I found)

O = 6 correct
Al = 3 correct
Ca = 2
Cu = 2, sometimes 1
Pb = 2, sometimes 4
Md = 2, sometimes 3

Valence electrons are found in the s and p orbitals. They are the first 2 and the last 6 groups going from left to right on the periodic table. Find your element and count as you go across that row, for example: oxygen has six valence electrons. You can find that by locating the period it is in (horizontal row) and then counting across: Li, Be, B, C, N, O. For any elements in the 3rd through 12th group, (the transition metals), count just the 2 electrons at the beginning of the period.

Generally, the group number indicates the number of valence electrons, except for the transition metals, they always have two.
Notice oxygen has 6 and is in the 6th group. The elements on the bottom also have two, since they are also in the transition metals.
