Most doctorates take quite a few years--- university + graduate degree - whether medicine or philosophy.

However, if you are looking at just medicine, you can start with nursing, add classes as you work, and certifications, and end up as a PA. Chiropractics may also be something in medicine that would interest you. What about vet or a dentist; still have schooling though --

In any of these, the more specialized you get, the more schooling.

I'm not a doctor, but I think the absolute minimum amount of time to become any type of doctor (practicing) is 4 undergrad + 4 grad + 3 post-grade (intern/residency). Others can feel free to correct me, but I can't be more than a year off at most.
