verify the device BIOS is desperate to "vehicle" for the IDE channels, and are not nevertheless showing the optical drives. verify the force is powered up and is spinning once you activate the flexibility (placed your hand on the force on an analogous time as you pres the computing device's ability button to work out). verify the ribbon cable is connected properly, with pin a million of the connector to pin a million of the stressful force. verify the force's connection pins to work out if any pins are bent over (this occurs plenty). different than that, you seem doing each and every thing properly, so that's an basic remember of the force has locked up. I doubt that motherboard's BIOS would have problem spotting a 250 gig stressful force, it fairly is a rather small force at present. attempt putting the force into the freezer in a zipper-lock lower back for some hours and then devoid of postpone hook it up and attempt it lower back (this shrinks metallic areas/bushings and would unlock any friction factors seizing up the platters or heads).

Mostly likely the BIOS settings are not picking it up due to:
1. Not set to auto detect
2. IDE Drive is turned off
3. Battery for BIOS is dead
Try going to BIOS and look for probably, "IDE Secondary Drive 0 or 1
If this is only CD drive should be "0" if second "1"

When you installed it, did you make it a slave? Did you connect the power? Did you connect the ribbon cable? Does your computer see it in the BIOS?

it depends on how you have set the drive up?

where is the drive,, is it on a cable with another drive(hard drive) ? if it is then you'll need to set the jumper switch on the back to slave drive

if you have 2 drives on the same cable 1 needs to be set as master while the other needs to be set as slave check out your drive jumpers and place them in the right connection

Always double check your connections.
Reboot your computer and since it is plug and play your system should be able to recognize it.

Good luck my friend
