I feel like knocking someone everytime I see a question like this. With all the information going out on the web and on cable, you mean people send you such stories and you actually contemplate sending the cash?
The Nigerian academic system doesn't charge trainee doctors seperately for the medical exams. You pay for them upfront when you pay tuition for a session at Medical School. And that certainly doesn't cost $350. Friends simply don't go round asking friends for money. Your Nigerian friend has parents, I'm sure. And I imagine she (indeed, I suspect it's a 'he') is only trying to work on your empathy.
If your friend is referring to Medical exams in the U.S., then it's even more absurd. Realize that 'she' will have to raise $2500 for the flight ticket alone. If she cannot afford that, then $350 is the least of her problems. If she's asking you to contribute to her exams, I'm sure you're also supposed to be a benefactor for that "ticket". Tell your 'friend' that $350 is a lot of money and that you cannot afford to spend that kind of cash or any amount whatsoever. I'm positive the 'love' will fade very abruptly.
To the person who says $350 is close to the average income in Nigeria, please keep your ignorance to yourself.

I watched an episode of 'Dr. Phil' about two weeks ago. Four guests appeared on the show who had been communicating with various people or 'friends' via the internet, all from Nigeria. ALL the guests had been scammed for large amounts of money and Dr. Phil did some investigations of his own and found that Nigeria was the biggest pond for scam artists, and, they were very professional, to the point that they all seemed genuine and above-board. They go to some crazy extremes. So it is in your best interests NOT to be one of them. Good Luck.

Absolutely untrue. It's a scam!! Use your common sense do you think anyone could afford a $350 medical exam in a country where most people make around that for the entire year?

Dude, this is one of the hundreds of scams coming out of that armpit of a country. Chances are that it's not even a woman. That country is riddled with lying scam artists. You need to cut off all communication with her/him and send NO money at all, unless you have a lot you're no longer in need of, in which case you can send some this way.

What kind of medical exams? If she is talking about any required vaccines I have no idea of the cost over there. But if is the ACTUAL MEDICAL EXAMINATION (for any kind of K visa), the American consulate has a list of authorized doctors, AND also a LIMIT of how much they can charge. It would be easy for you to check with them how much is that limit.
Good Luck
