Once it's jumped it runs fine, but when I turn it off and turn the key again I get nothing, just clicking.

Most likely bad battery or connection.

Yes, you need to purchase a new car battery. Do not listen to anyone who tells you it is your alternator or that you need new battery cables, because the alternator has nothing to do with starting the car, and if your cables were bad the car wouldn't start with a jump. One thing you may want to look at is the corrosion that is on the battery terminals and the battery cable ends. If they are badly corroded clean them and get another jump. This time let you car run for a while and give the battery time to charge. If the terminals are not corroded go purchase another battery; the wintertime is hard on car batteries.

clean the terminals real good and try again. if it does the same thing then i would suspect battery. the clicking sound is your solonoid trying to engage the starter. you may have to jump it the first time to give the battery a chane to charge a bit, considering that battery may be low due to the terminals being cruddy and not getting the charge that it should be getting. . and yes, the car WILL start when jumping it with dirty cables . period

Sounds like the battery. If your alternator is bad the car will run until the battery is dead, then it will jump but as soon as you remove the jumper cables the car will die again.

The clicking sound is the solenoid fitted on top of the starter motor is knackered. It is not making contact to turn the starter motor over. If you feel that you can do it, it is not a difficult job. If you do decide to fit a new solenoid, disconnect the battery first.

Dude, take it to a shop and let someone check it out. If it needs a new battery, get a new battery. Car batteries die out just like every other battery.

sounds like the battery is long gone, if it was the alternator the car would cut out as soon as you took the jump leads off.

Charging OR Starting System! Alternator is not charging or your starter could possible be dragging and running the battery down.

Mine was doing that until one day when I had no one to jump it so I just went and wiggled the battery, so now whenever it does that I just wiggle the wires and it starts right up, I've yet to get it fixed.

You have a bad battery, or a bad ground wire, or maybe just dirty battery terminals and not making a good connection.

Good luck.
