My partner and I are looking to possibly start a modelling agency, Anyone have any idea or even experiences with agencies? I want to make it a very unqiue, classy agency that works for the models - not the other way around. We are based in Victoria, Australia.

You first have to understand who your clients are. They are the ones who pay your fees and ultimately are the ones who will tell you and your models what to do. If they want only size 2 brunettes with blue eyes who can drive cars with manual transmissions, then you will either give them what they want or not get any business. The trick is doing that while still looking out for the best interests of the models.

Therefore, the first place to start is by understanding who the clients are. You will have no modeling agency without paying clients, so talk to photographers, public relations specialists, magazine editors and ad agencies -- especially photographers and ad agencies, as they are the traditional users of models.

Since you and your models are likely to be very inexperienced, read everything you can about the modeling business. Make sure your models get to the job on time and looking right. Make sure they have the right attitude. Have them do what's necessary the night before to have their skin, eyes and hair looking their very best. But the way to start is by reading everything you can. One place to start is at the link below.

Good luck!

Hello ^_^

I myself am a model with Elmer Olsen Model Managment in Toronto, Parfe in Tokyo, Japan, and IMG in New York.

Getting an agency off the ground is hard work. You need to know what kind of models your interested in (eg. women, men, children, plus size, character). My agency in Japan represents only 5 girls for periods of 6 weeks to 2 monthes while my Toronto and NY agencies represent over 100 girls continuously. Getting connections is extremely important--even if you know just one well known photographer or make up artist then you can get a model a testing. All of my agencies have done very well because of good relations and being picky about what models they choose to represent. I guess you start with open calls and see how it works! The worst an agency can do is charge their models for "modelling lessons". A reliable agency fronts all costs and starts accounts for their models to pay back orignal costs such as for composite cards and modelling books once the model starts earning money. Becoming a mother agency is important so it would be good to have good connections with other agencies in Paris, NY, wherever. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

Good luck!

Good day, make sure that you know your market very well
who the clients are, the photographers, the leading competition and also the models

make sure if you get bookings for models that you have enough cash flow to pay the models in required time frame

if you are going to be a modeling agency find out what license
you may need.

what type of advertising to let clients and models know that you are there

I would also recommend hiring an experienced booking agent

good luck

You are definatley not too fat, perhaps too short though. In england we use feet to measure height not cm. I wouldnt consider your teeth to be a major issue, as many models have bad teeth, mostly due to too much smoking and coffee. I think you could do some good polaroid photos. By this i mean just straight on looking at the camera, maybe try a more serious face. Oh and i think you mean you want to join an agency not make one, Good luck x
