I found out a long time ago that parents aren't perfect, they don't always know the right thing or what is best in every situation, that what they believe to be right may not be right for you.
And having been a parent myself and making my share of mistakes, I have learned that parents should admit their mistakes and say they are sorry when needed.
My father was usually right, though, and I miss him terribly, having lost him in 1989. He was a sweet, caring man who tried hard to know and do the best he could.

Hi MdGreg!! I think if your assertion was realized about the MAJORITY of societal life, the MAJORITY of the time, there would be several individual and societal ramifications:

You'd feel like an odd ball, in short. You'd have to consciously put on faces to relate, you'd be above average in intelligence, you'd be creative, you'd challenge the norm, you'd more easily see the absurdity in advertising, subliminal media driven tactics, you'd be fiercely independent, you'd be real, you'd feel as though you don't fit in with macro ideals, into the paradigmatic reality of society, you'd question everything, and you might feel alone.

All sounds kind of familiar...

I figured that out when I was ten years old! I started thinking for myself as a result!
