Alright, I'm stuck doing a Christian music project at my school, she gaves us a bunch of examples from hard rock to rap to stereotypical Christian music.

My problem is, they all are terrible, mainstream, and a pain to listen to. One of the requirements is to enjoy the music to get a good grade. It's a bit painful really, I can't find a band or song that really suits me, there is no variety in the Christian rock, it's all Nickelback-esque and overdone.

I need a band that doesn't sound like everything on the radio, preferably something with similarities to bands like Modest Mouse, The Shins, Beck, The Mars Volta or even the Postal Service. I reallllly would appreciate help.

Personally I like all different types of Christian music, from pop bands like Casting Crowns, to a little harder like Third Day, to Christian rap. I enjoy DC Talk too. You don't say where you are, but here's a site that has a lot of radio stations on it, including quite a few online ones. Maybe you could flip through a few of the online ones to keep from buying a lot of CD's. Try http://www.mediaofchrist.com/Christian_Radio_Stations.html and maybe that will help.

There's plenty of good Christian rock. You just need to know where to look.

A few good examples are Relient K, Switchfoot, Skillet, Casting Crowns, Firefight, the list goes on and on.

If you want to hear some good christian rock, I recommend checking out Air1. They play Christian alternative and you can listen online for free.

Check out:
"Rebirthing" by Skillet
"Legacy" by Kutless
Pillar

Those are "rock" styles....

And there's:
FM Static
Tree63
Relient K
Switchfoot

(check out myspace music, too)

I don't know if those will help...it seems like there's a lot of Christian pop out there.
