Because we know nothing about them. We don't know if they're good or evil. We don't know if they're hate us or not. We don't know where they come from. We don't know what they're up to, and we don't know if they're really exist. It's just like meeting new creatures, we know nothing about them. So, for safety reasons, we would be scared because we don't know what would happen to us if we meet them.

A Ghost is not a demon or an angel or any other being. A Ghost is the manifested spirit of a dead person.
They aren't scary. At least not as they are in the movies like the 6th Sense and the like.
I mean something just popping out of thin air is scary, but you get over it.

I personally don't believe ghosts to be scary. I have had an experience with one. Yeah, I was scared at first...but I calmed down after that. I knew it didn't mean any mal intent. And most don't. So there is no reason to be terrified of them. Yeah, it's really creepy...but no reason to worry about them or have nightmares.
And I don't think they are demons. I lived next door to a haunted house for twenty years and I'm alive. Spent tons of time in the house and came out without a scratch.

No, you don't most likely. Ghosties are a rarity, yet they're there all the time. It's like seeing something you don't expect.
Then again you may have been programmed as a child to think that ghosts are scary white sheety things that moan and scream at you... we can't change that. But yeah, ghosts are there. I've never seen one, but I believe.

I don't find ghosts scary, so perhaps the better question is, why do YOU find ghosts scary? And I'm afraid only you can answer that.

I think the fear is mostly in the surprise and in the lack of understanding. Seeing a ghost is usually not expected so the shock can really do a number on you. Also, usually when we seem to perceive these things we call paranormal, we are alone, and it's usually dark...so the fear more in the environment then in the apparition itself, at least in my opinion.

Ghosts are scarey because we have no natural explination for them and they do things that we can't even begint to dream of. They can walk through walls and be anywhere one second and gone the next.

Humans aren't understandable for supernatural things. The Halloween ones are B.S. although the spirits that do exist are real. They are tiring to protect the area there in, if your conscious about it.

Because people fear what they don't understand
I don't find them scary
I find a comfort in knowing they are around : )

ghosts represent that whicn we fear most. the unknown. there is no such thing as ghosts but our fear of such things derives from our evolutionary heritage, which taught us.. better safe than sorry: if you hear something rustling.. bolt.
