80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Well, there is no immediate answer to this at this point in time, but one question you must ask is "what is life?" So far we know that life is a complex function involving numerous chemical reactions which work together in a self-sustaining mass (a body, human, animal, etc.). From a scientific standpoint the goal of life is to sustain life in, other words the goal of an individual is to attempt to live and produce life as well as possible. Plainly speaking the goal of life is to do it and do it well. Some theories like natural selection say that the goal of a species is to mate with the most fit and intelligent of that species in order to improve future life and that makes sense to me, at least that's the way it should be. I don't know if this satisfies you but I'm not omniscient. Considering our past humans know quite a bit about the world now and i predict we will continue to gain knowledge just have hope in science!

There should be enough meaning there.

I suppose we are here to learn to love and help each other regardless of our differences. To live the life you love and not try telling others how to live. It's not about how long you live, but how well you live. Believe me - this is harder to do for many people than you'd think! There's several meanings of life.

God knows best, but when we talk about life, we usually referred to the life on this material world. We consider life as a combinatition of body and soul, and when soul is seperated from the body, we call it death. Actually, the real life is the life of soul, that never dies.

There is an answer, but it is so elaborate and complex, that us humans can not comprehend that idea. It's like trying to understand the beginning of time in the universe. There is an answer, but it is something we cannot comprehend into our small minds. The human mind can only stand so much.

to love God with everything you've got, to love others as yourself, and to attain perfect peace and joy in Heaven with God.

(yes, this is the answer I used for the other 'what is the meaning of life?', because it's true.)

the meaning of anything is to be that which it is.
...so, either the meaning of life (in this human expression anyway) is to facillitate the essence of one's own being, or, failing that, to figure out who or what it is that one actually is (so that we can better facillitate the essence of our own being).
