I have collected world coins for 27 years, I enjoy completing series from many nations, or better yet, having one of every coin from an entire nation. I love reading up on the history of the coins, mintage figures, etc.

Plus, there is a sense of pleasure you can not understand until your holding a coin that may have been in Christs coin purse, or when your holding a coin so rare that there are only 13 of them in the world.

You must remember, coin collectors do not care what their coins are worth, that is the domain of dealers, and investors.

There are many reasons to collect coins, some do it as an investment, these people are more investors than collectors. Collectors usually try to complete a certain coin series such as Lincoln cents, Buffalo nickels, Jefferson nickels or Kennedy half dollars, can't forget state quarters. It sounds easy but it is not. They like a challenge, but not like the advanced collectors do, for they go after die varieties of bust half dollars, large cents or maybe bust quarters. Then there are the history people who love the great art work of ancient coins or the coins from the many wars this world has had over the years. A person who not only collects coins but also studies them and knows the history of them is called a numismatist. Not all collectors are numismatists. I collect Oriental coins for I like dragons, but I study them and learn the history about them. I want to know what was going on when they were first minted. I also have my favorite U.S. coin series that I collect. Any coin with a history gets my attention. This is but a few reasons people collect there are more. It is a fun hobby and remember, it is considered the King of hobbies.

I dont think the goal is to collect them all. The goal is usually to collect the ones you think are neat. coins and stamps are both a part of a countries history. many times there will be a commemorative on the face of both. usually art. A lot of art lovers are stamp and coin lovers too. Sometimes people collect by topic (for example only collect stamps with Native American art on it.) or only coins for asia, etc.

They are beautiful. It is a challenge to collect an entire series. They are a great investment. They will never drop in value.

I have been collecting the 50 state quarter proof coins for 9 years. When completed next year it will probably be worth 10 times what I paid.

Studding the origins of coins and stamps can be vary rewarding and fun! When you complete an album, it's like finishing a puzzle. Except you have to get the pieces from all over the world!

I have collected stamps most of my life. Stamps are miniature works of art, lovely to look at.

They are also educational--you can learn history, geography, culture, and much else from stamps. They are relaxing -- during World War II Franklin D. Rossevelt used his stamp collection to escape from the crushing responsibilities of his office.

They are historical artifacts themselves -- each used stamp carried a letter from one person to another.

I love my stamps!
