It works. But don't expect anything fantastic. It's mainly for people like you who just love games and want to make their own.
To create a real game that is good (possibly anyway) you need to learn a C++.

http://game-editor.com/
http://www.gamediscovery.com/game-design/game-design-software.asp You have to scroll down a bit past the school/educational facilities for game developers to get to the different program and instructional sites
http://www.gamedev.net/reference/start_here/ For new and seasoned game developers...lots of info here
Scroll down to Game Design here, good tools and tips here for beginners and others into games design http://www.devmaster.net/articles.php
This should swamp you with info :) Good luck and enjoy development, it's a great, frustrating, irritating, fun, exciting and ego boosting (when things work as planned in the end) experience, you may even want to pursue a career in it. That's how my younger son did things...taught himself, C/C++, Java, VB, C# and has made a number of games and applications. Main thing is to stick with it, follow the tutorials step by step, work with the coding/program to design with and don't get frustrated..if something isn't working out, walk away for awhile and then come back in an hour or two...you will see that it all goes better then.

Mate it isnt that easy
Games are made by coding, then you transfer you code to a openGL program for example and start designing your game,
I am sorry but if you dont no basic coding you can not even start to create a game
If you want to learn about coding then move on to game design coding there are websites on the net just google "coding for games or "gaming disign coding"
Hope i helped mate cya

Gamemaker.nl, the free GameMaker that's great for 2D and/or isometric games.
Start small, finish something, then work on something bigger. If you plan huge you'll NEVER get it finished.
