the technician came, but never actually did anything. they charged me 60.00! i called them and the csr said that they charge just for coming out. can i fight this?

Of course they can, it's called a service charge. It would be more if they had had to fix anything.

If they do any work past the phone box, then they can charge you. The repair person should have been very clear about that. Whether the work is inside or outside, the phone company is only responsible for the wiring up to and inside the outdoor phone box.

Now, I ask, they left without fixing the problem? Why? Did you physically call them? Why was the person there?

My answer is for when you call the phone company. Your question is worded so it sounds like the guy just showed up when your phone is working fine. If that's the case, I would ask to speak to a supervisor. They can't randomly charge you for no reason.

I have to assume that you called them about a problem. If you do not have line insurance coverage through the phone company, they can charge you for just coming out and going past the line box to your residence. You can fight but will lose. You called them and they came out.

If you have a jack problem which is mostly probably the case yes.If you are in an apartment get it claimed from them if you dont have even a single working jack

Not really, the utilities are all crooks anymore. Tell them where to go and just get a cell phone.
