Do you think Congress should pass a constitutional amendment so that foreign-born American citizens can become president or vice president? What if they had to be citizens for 35 years? Why or why not?

Yes, my son is a foreign-born American, he was born while I was on active duty overseas. He received a U.S. birth certificate from the U.S. consulate stating the he was an American born citizen aboard. He is just as much American as anyone born in the U.S.

Now if you are asking if naturalized American should be president, then No you need to be born American to be the leader of America.

No. I think that there needs to be a line drawn about that and fortunately there is. I'm sure there are some great people out there that would make great American Presidents but there are also a lot of people who would make great American presidents who were born here. American born citizens can not become president anywhere else that I know of so why should we let it be the other way around?

No. I think the founding father's were correct in designing it that way. Many people who are now citizens could make good presidents. But, I'm opposed to changing the intention of our founding fathers. The Constitution has been such a success and I think we should be very careful when we change it. I don't like the citizen for 35 year idea. There are many things I couldn't do if I immigrated to another country. And, there are countries don't even accept most immigrants.

No, I think that the founding fathers were more intelligent than most people give them credit for. If you allow a foreign born naturalized citizen to run and obtain the high office of president there would always be questions about the loyalties of said person. There could be no "litmus" test that could assuage the fears of the populace. Even after 35 years there would still be too many unanswered questions.

No. Natural born citizens should only be allowed to run and be president. I honestly don't even think that we should have anyone in our government that is not a natural born citizen. We have gotten to the point where we cater to foreigners and forget about our own.

Being the President of this wonderful country is an honor for "made in America" citizens only! It is an American privilege!

Yes, most of the legal immigrants I know are more American than the spoiled little brats that were born here and can't appreciate what a unique and wonderful country we have.

No, you should have to be born in the country to run for President. Though im not sure how it works out if you were born in a U.S. military base on foreign soil, though I suppose it is government property.

The President should be US born. Perhaps they should lower the age requirements for offices. If the us aloowed any one to run who knows who would run. Perhaps people that did not care about the US.

No. There was a reason for it. Imagine a foreign born person with only fake loyalties to the US but real loyalty to a foreign government. Would they truly represent America?
